Bridget Jones-alikes
Bridget Jones's Diary, Helen Fielding's hilarious account of a neurotic thirty-something British "singleton" chronicles her daily life in terms of cigarettes smoked, alcohol units consumed, and the number of times she checked her answering machine for messages. It gave birth to a whole sub-genre of "Brit Chick Lit" featuring sassy heroines, a dash of sex, snappy dialogue and a hip attitude to pop culture.
