In coordination with the Jackson County Reads 2010 book choice Three Cups of Tea, the Friends of the White City Library are hosting a Volunteer Outreach Tea. The Tea will be held on Tuesday, March 23 from 7:00-8:30 p.m., at the White City Branch Library, 3143 Avenue C.
Russ Cooper will present “Out of Kathmandu” in coordination with Jackson County Reads 2010, a one-book, one-community program, on Thursday, March 18 from 4:00–5:30 p.m. at the Eagle Point Branch Library, 239 West Main Street.
Touring poets Ish Klein, John Beer, and Paul Killebrew will read their poetry on Saturday, March 20 from 1:00-2:30 p.m. at the Ashland Branch Library, 410 Siskiyou Boulevard.
Join the fun at a tea party and movie on Thursday, March 18 from 12:45-3:00 p.m. at the Phoenix Branch Library, 510 West 1st Street.
Following the tea party 84 Charing Cross Road, rated PG, will be shown. It’s a story about love and a love of books, featuring Anne Bancroft and Anthony Hopkins.
Beginning March 15, Jackson County Library users will have access to e-book titles 24/7. Through the Library2Go link, card holders can browse the collection, checkout, and download e-books, audiobooks, and videos, anytime, anywhere.
The Guild Lecture Series, sponsored by the Friends of the Medford Library, presents “From Xerxes to Alexander: Ancient Greece in War and Peace” by Ean Roby. The lecture will be held on Wednesday, March 17 from 12 noon – 1 p.m. in the Large Community Meeting Room of the Medford Branch Library, 205 South Central Avenue.
For the final lecture in the series, the topic is The Aftermath of the Peloponnesian War. The seven decades from the end of the Peloponnesian War to the beginning of the conquests of Alexander the Great are filled with action as Athens again rises to power and contends with the Spartans, the Persians, and others.
Ashland Children’s Library will present St. Patrick’s Day Shenanigans on Wednesday, March 17 from 2-4 p.m. at the Ashland Branch Library, 410 Siskiyou Boulevard. Children and their parents or caregivers are invited to make Irish crafts, listen to Irish music, learn Irish dancing, listen to Irish stories, and yes, enjoy Irish refreshments.
Acclaimed documentary photographer, Teru Kuwayama, will show his photography and discuss his work on Saturday, March 13 from 7-9 p.m. at the North Medford High School Auditorium, 1900 North Keene Way Drive. This free program is one of many events scheduled to highlight Jackson County Reads 2010’s book choice, Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote Peace…One School at a Time by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin.
Storyteller Thomas Doty will share “Doty & Coyote: Stories from the Native West” on Saturday, March 13 from 2:00-3:30 p.m. at the Ruch Branch Library, 7919 Highway 238.
Come on in, bring your friends, and play some games like Jungle Speed or Take It Easy! Beginning March 9, the Medford Teen Library offers “Tuesday Game Time” every second Tuesday of the month from 4-6 p.m. at the Medford Branch Library, 205 South Central Avenue.
In coordination with Jackson County Reads 2010, the documentary film Beyond the Call will be shown on Wednesday, March 10 from 7:00-8:30 p.m., at the Ashland Branch Library, 410 Siskiyou Boulevard. This movie shows how one person – or perhaps three persons – can make a difference.

Jackson County Reads 2010! Everyone in Jackson County is encouraged to read and discuss Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote Peace…One School at a Time. Written by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin, it is an inspiring account of Mr. Mortenson's mission to counteract terrorism by building schools, especially for girls, throughout the breeding ground of the Taliban in Central Asia. Three Cups of Tea is an unforgettable adventure and an inspiring true story.
