Book Reviews

“Gone” by Michael Grant
“This book makes you very thankful for your elders and parents. If kids were all alone and had to take the responsibilities of the elders I don’t think it would run smoothly. I loved it! Best book in a long time.”

“Yes, Your Parents Are Crazy” by Michael J. Bradley
“Many books for teens state the problems, however, they don’t offer solutions. This book does. As well as giving answers, it also gives stories of real people who have encountered these problems. Not only does this book lend help to people who read it, but it also helps teens relate to their parents, something which seems an impossible thought.”

“Voices of Dragons” by Carrie Vaughn
“The book is about this girl who befriends a dragon, which is against the law, talks to it, and eventually flies on its back. After awhile things get dragged into dangerous situations and Kay has to make a hard choice. I liked it because it shows our choices have consequences that can be bad or good.”

“Lock and Key” by Sarah Dessen
“Another ‘ten’ for Sara Dessen. This book is so good and since this was my first audiobook, I was surprised liking it. It was a great book about Ruby, a girl who doesn’t really know where she fits in. I loved it. I didn’t like having such a slow ‘read.’ I would have loved it more if I could have read it at my pace.” Medford Branch Library
“Big Mouth and Ugly Girl” by Joyce Carol Oates
“Ursula Riggs, a star athlete at Rocky River High, finds that love sometimes appears out of nowhere. A boy she thought didn’t know she existed was there to cheer her on when everyone was putting her down. I liked it because I was able to relate to Ursula.”

“In Grandma’s Attic” by Arleta Richardson
“It is a great read and it is one of my personal favorites. It is about a girl named Mabel and her best friend Sara Jane, Mabel’s brothers, and her parents. Mabel is the kind of girl who gets into all kinds of trouble such as flavoring cake with liniment and much more! Read it! I liked it because it was funny.”

Music Reviews
“That Was Then, This Is Now” by Chasen
“This CD had some very good Christian rock music. I especially liked the song “Castaway” and “One in a Million.” I liked it because it is a really good Christian rock CD.”

“Yael Naim and David Donatien” by Yael Naim
“This is Yael Naim’s second album and it has the song ‘New Soul’ from Apple’s MacBook Air commercials. Some of the music is sad, but most of it is inspiring or fun. Some of the lyrics are French and some are English.”

“The Lost Get Found” by Britt Nicole
“This is the second album by Britt Nicole, and it has two of the Christian radio’s #1 songs. It has uplifting Christian music, not just serious lyrics.”

“Fame”
“This CD is a collection of music from the movie “Fame.” There are lots of different artists on this CD. I really like it.” Medford Branch
“My Paper Heart” by Francesca Battistelli
“A beautiful voice and equally beautiful lyrics! In the 17 songs on the CD, Francesca sings about life in an angelic way.”

“American Saturday Night” by Brad Paisley
“This is an awesome country CD. It is all-American music and will have you singing along in no time. The songs were very dynamic.”

“Fearless” by Taylor Swift
“Taylor Swift sings about things that most young women will feel. She sings about falling in love, break-ups, and having a guy not even know you are alive. Taylor Swift has a sweet voice.”

“Year of the Black Rainbow” by Coheed and Cambria
“Year of the Black Rainbow is Coheed and Cambria’s newest album. Although they took a giant step away from their heavy rock style, they are still one of the greatest bands of the 2000s.”

DVD Reviews
“Two Brothers”
“Two tigers are born into the land of India, but are separated, one to the circus to learn the “tricks of the trade,” and the other to the pampered life of a governor’s son. Later in life they are reunited to fight. I have always loved cats and tigers are one of my favorite kind of cats. “

“Jaws”
“A great white shark showed up on an island and ate a girl. The Chief of Police wanted to close the beaches, but the mayor didn’t because of tourists. On the 4th of July the shark ate a man. They finally close the beaches. Then the Chief hires a man to kill the shark. I liked it because it was very thrilling.”

“The Scarlet Pimpernel”
“Percy is a part of a secret organization that helps save people that are innocent. Margaret, Percy’s wife, is asked to find out who the Scarlet Pimpernel is and she is married to him, but he is always in disguises and his secret identity is the Scarlet Pimpernel. I liked it because it was a funny, romantic, suspenseful, old movie.”

“Super Size Me”
“This movie is a good movie. It tells about what can happen if you eat at McDonalds three meals a day for a month. Morgan Spurlock finds out all the sugar he was taking was killing his liver!!! It was a good movie, but I didn’t like it because it made me sick.”
Medford Branch Library
“Top Gun”
“This was my first time seeing it and even though it was a little old I really liked it. I like action and army, plus it had some romance and drama. It had some twists because I expected Cruise to win the Top Gun competition, but he didn’t. I liked it because it was very attention-grabbing and I got into it.”

“Enchanted”
“Geselle lives in cartoon land where everyone lives happily ever after. But when she falls in love with the prince, his wicked stepmother sends her to modern day New York City. The prince goes out to rescue her, but neither of them know what they’re in for. It is funny, romantic, and exciting.”

Program Reviews
“Bottle Music”
“Stan Olds showed us how to blow over the top of a bottle to make sound, and as he filled them up, the pitches changed. We learned that the smaller the bottle or the more water makes a higher pitch. Stan even played and explained some of the instruments he has learned to play! It was super fun, and I’ll never forget the experience. I loved playing music and the joy it brought everyone.”

“Mask Making 1”
“Mask Making 1 was fun. We got to pair up and plaster each other’s faces. It was really weird having my face plastered. I couldn’t talk which was weird for me because I’m a talk-aholic. I liked it because I was really looking at a plaster version of my face.”
Medford Branch Library
“Mask Making 2”
“Mask Making 2 was also fun. We got to decorate a plaster version of our own face. It wasn’t just paint. There was waaaayyy more stuff. It was really cool. I liked it because we could do whatever we wanted with our masks in the decorating process.”
Medford Branch Library
“Poetry Workshop”
“At the Teen Library Poetry Workshop we wrote lots of poems with different prompts. Some were about water and some weren’t. I liked it because it was fun and I got a cookie.”
